The Holy Town of Confluence of Three Sacred Rivers
India Allahabad Bath inside the sacred waters of Ganges and YamunaLocated on the banks in the rivers Yamuna and Ganga, Allahabad is one of the most famous pilgrim centres in Uttar Pradesh. Legend has it the historic Saraswati River once flowed underground, and joined the Yamuna plus the Ganga in Prayag, the historic name for Allahabad.
The confluence of these holy rivers is recognized as Sangam, which can be deemed a very sacred location for Hindus. They firmly think that after they die and are cremated, they would attain moksha, or freedom through the cycle of birth-death-rebirth, if their ashes are immersed at Sangam.
The Town OF Maha Kumbh Mela
Allahabad can also be the site for the mammoth Maha Kumbh Mela that is held each 12 a long time, and draws more than 2 million men and women, both from India and abroad. Throughout the Ardh Kumbh Mela that takes location once in six a long time, 1000's of devotees come to Allahabad to bathe inside the holy waters of your Ganga and Yamuna.
The Magh Mela is held yearly, in January and February, and lasts for 15 days. These melas (fairs) commemorate the battle in between gods and demons about a kumbh (pot) of amrit, the elixir of lifestyle. When the amrit surfaced through the bottom with the ocean, Lord Vishnu, the Hindu Preserver on the Universe ran absent using the pot of amrit. Whilst he was operating, 4 drops in the elixir fell on the sites that are now the holy towns of Allahabad, Haridwar, Nasik and Ujjain.
Other Tourist Attractions
Allahabad can also be well-known for its guavas, and for its college, which is also called 'the Oxford with the East'. An architectural wonder, the Allahabad University is exactly where several of India's greatest leaders studied sooner or later or the other. Other British monuments of curiosity in Allahabad are the High Court, the All Saints Cathedral and also the Mayo Complex, to title several. Khusrao Bagh and Akbar's Fort would be the architectural remnants with the Mughal Empire ( 1526-1857A.D.) in Allahabad.
